just wondering wat u guys would recommend for a new processor?
i guess for gaming...

ive been out of the computer scene so im not exactly up to date w/ things any more. i just know AMD has the athlon 64 and the 64 x2 out... as for intel im pretty clueless w/ them now.

my comp has bene pissin me off, so im leaning towards just making a new one... been replacing random things that break w/ my comp the past year. but htings just keep breaking, so yea...

appreciate it :D
Terroc
Athlon 64 (whatever you can afford). Dont get an X2 for gaming, it would be a waste of money.
Stu
i have an Athelon 64 3200+ and its hot, I can run two games on one comp both in AB with no lag.

LAPPY FTW

Well I have a P4 2.86GHz chip and I can run two sessions of WoW on the same comp without any problems as well. Course I have 1GB of RAM and a 256MB 9800Pro Vid card which helps out much. Lag was hurting me before when I only had 512MB of RAM. But once I popped a second 512 stick in there the lag disappeared instantly. I mean before the extra RAM, I would land in IF and 3 minutes later I could move. After the extra RAM, I can land and be headed out right away.

I would say if you go Intel go with a P4 2.8 or higher GHz 800 FSB chip.
Drakul
Yeah, RAM is a big issue in WoW.

I had 512 MB and upgraded to 1.5 GB of Ram and WoW runs almost flawlessly.
bthree
hmm...

i was thinkig of gettin the athlon 64 3800+
i was actual torn between the dual core or the single,
wasnt sure if the x2 was worth it for gaming.
but since terroc said no to it... i think ill just go w/ the single core
h3ahaa
thanks roc u dah man

the only reason why im not goin intel is cuz
id have to get a whole new memory set for it.
i just recently got my sticks, so i dont feel like i have to replace them now.
i believe the intels need ram that are faster then 400mhz
to fully take advantage of its potential.
i would love to have less noise from the HS fan though
since intels dont run as hot as AMDs
but oh well

Same deal here. Before, I would fall into Ironforge's pit twice before I could move with 512 ram with all visual settings down to bare minimum. Now, video is almost at max settings and I no longer need to be afraid of falling into the lava in BRM.

I've been kicking around the idea of getting an Alienware PC. Waste of money? I want a good gaming PC and I have some spare cash to spend.
pilamar
Personally I wouldn't buy an Alienware comp. But that's just cause I think I could get a better deal outta building my own.

This is my problem. I know I could save a significant amount of money building it on my own, but I'm not 100% sure I would a) know what to buy and from where and b) put everything together correctly.

I've upgraded my machine so many times that I think i could do it. I even moved everything out of one case and put it in a new one, so I think I could probably manage, but at the time I had a roommate who has built many computers and helped me a great deal.

Guess I'm looking for the same thing b3 is, suggestions on what to buy and where to buy em from. My current pc is such a peice that I'm gonna have to start from scratch (case, board, memory, hd, video card, monitor, keyboard, etc)

I'll keep surfing. Gives me something to do while I should be working.

www.newegg.com is good place to go. When your looking for memory just hit up one of the cheap memory sites. There are some other sites that can be cheaper than newegg but not many. Morienna probably knows where to go.
bthree
www.zipzoomfly.com
is another place.

but yea... if ur really interested, look into.
its actually pretty fun.
i started off learning on my own... a few years ago, i knew like everything
that was to know...
now how ever i dont know shit. but its alwasy fun looking up the new things that are out. its taking forever for me to figure out wats good now.
