I have been a restoration speced druid for months now, since I was level 56 and started doing 7 man instances with the old school THC boys. After the test server came online I tryed out a ballance template and I fell in love. It is so fricking awsome for pvp and I am going to have a hard time going back to my old restoration template once battlegrounds go live.
In short I am thinking of switching my template to 21 restoration and 30 ballance. Would this be a problem for you guys? I know that nova playes my toon in MC a lot as a primary healer so I am asking you all if its ok. By switching templates I wouldnt be as good of a healer, infact it would problly lower my healing abilities by about 33%. In the right hands though Emo would still be able to heal, just not as well.
Here is the template I have been messing with for you people that want to know...
Balance Talents (30 points)
Nature's Grasp - 1/1 point
While active, any time an enemy strikes the caster, they have a 35% chance to become afflicted by Entangling Roots (Rank 1). Only usable outdoors. 1 charge. Lasts 45 seconds.
Improved Nature's Grasp - 4/4 points
Increases the chance for your Nature's Grasp to entangle an enemy by 65%.
Improved Moonfire - 5/5 points
Increases the damage and critical strike chance of your Moonfire spell by 10%.
Nature's Reach - 2/2 points
Increases the range of your Wrath, Entangling Roots, Faerie Fire (caster form only), Moonfire, and Starfire spells by 20%.
Improved Starfire - 5/5 points
Gives your Starfire spell a 15% chance to stun the target for 3 seconds.
Moonglow - 3/5 points
Reduces the Mana cost of your Moonfire and Starfire spells by 6%.
Nature's Grace - 1/1 point
Your critical strikes with the Wrath, Starfire, and Moonfire spells grace you with a blessing of nature, reducing the casting time of your next Regrowth or Healing Touch spell by 1 second.
Moonfury - 4/5 points
Increases the damage done by your Starfire and Moonfire spells by 8%.
Vengeance - 5/5 points
Increases the critical strike damage of your Starfire, Moonfire, and Wrath spells by 100%.
Feral Combat Talents (0 points)
None
Restoration Talents (21 points)
Improved Mark of the Wild - 5/5 points
Increases the effects of your Mark of the Wild spell by 35%.
Nature's Focus - 5/5 points
Gives you a 60% chance to avoid interruption caused by damage while casting the Healing Touch or Regrowth spells.
Improved Healing Touch - 4/5 points
Reduces the mana cost of your Healing Touch spell by 12%.
Gift of Nature - 1/1 point
Increases the effect of your Healing Touch, Rejuvenation, Regrowth, and Tranquility spells by 5%.
Reflection - 5/5 points
Allows 15% of your Mana regeneration to continue while casting.
Nature's Swiftness - 1/1 point
When activated, your next Nature spell becomes an instant cast spell.

I switched back to shadow, having to heal myself sucks ass, and I just have wayyyyyyy more fun as a shadow priest.
i say do it, make the game fun again.

ahh the question that plagues all druids.
Once BG comes out I'm 100% sure I'm switching over to Balance also. Except I'll be getting Hurricane (more useful than you'd think).
And once the other instances come out... poo... but hey a wannabemage is still cool :P

Thanks for the support in this decision. It will problly happen.
As for the comment about hurricane, the way I look at it. In PvP Natures swiftness >>>> Hurricane, so much so its not even funnny. If hurricane did more dammage and wasnt channeled then it would be better, at leist with barkskin you can avoid inturuption with it now.

i was going balance spec on my druid, but ya like everyone said you gotta be happy playing your char. can't force ppl to be the heal bot even though we tried to get infi to be holy spec for ever o well chron can only push so much... maybe if he threatnd his guild status... lol

Kerv only has a lot of healing cuz 93% of her heals are when I'm already at full hp and out of combat.
As for you Emo, you have fun /w your spec but play dammit! I stayed an arms warrior even when I knew the guild would've preferred protection : )
And i WAS protection for a month in THC if you old school guys remember so don't give me no shit cuz I know well how much it sucks

That spec looks good... I dont know much about Druids per say but from the looks of the talents it looks like a really solid spec... enjoy the rooting!

hmm I don't think you need the 4/4 for the imp nature's grasp.
I think maybe 3/4 or even 2/4 is enough and the 1 or 2 points can be used for reducing the cost of mana for SF/MF even further or increasing their dmg.
My guess is that for BG it'll be more about stringing out more damage and there will be mages to frostnova
and for PvP situations i find that even 0/4 works very well.

Yeah I could put less in imp natures grasp, but I still need 5 points to get to the next tier in ballance. I am defentlly not going to put those points into imp wrath. Wrath sucks, I hardlly ever use it anymore, if imp wrath made it insta cast or reduced the cast time by 1 second not .5 it might be somthing to think about. Most of the time however I would rather cast starfire especally with the chance to stun.

mm emokore how'd the tree work out for you?
I actually pretty much went your path with some minor diffs and the damage output (with spell crit rings/trinks etc) was on average 500-600 regularly with random 1100+ outbursts [with starfire]
Moonfire's been going at 500+ but even before when I had no points in Balance that's what I've been getting.
Maybe its because I'm still wearing WH but tell me how it goes/went for you.
I'm going back to 8/11/32 I think.
